I started by studying books, did one class and studied the old masters of Mask Face Dolls Lenci, Kruse and Wellings.
I loved the idea of a cuddly doll that were hand made with love and individually. And to offer a high quality version of an old wonderful style of doll and make it as accessible, price wise to more people, and hopefully along the way make a wage from it.
I specialize in Black dolls specifically Australian Aboriginal dolls, which gives our Native Australians a doll to identify with. As in other countries most dolls were just white dolls painted black, just to fill a void, but aboriginal kids are in my opinion some of the most beautiful faces in the world, why not make them look like the real thing?
I also make African descent dolls, which have the same composition material covered head as well as white dolls (more of the traditional type, as in the old masters Mask Face of molded felt)
All of which are One of a kind (OOAK) and unique, each doll has individually painted faces, and never see to be the same. Each has distinct clothes, some are embroidered some are appliqued, some have traditional hand painted art.
All the clothes have over locked seams (except felt which doesn’t need it) Some have vintage buttons for embellishment or fastening. Some have antique lace.
The options are endless and exciting, which makes owning a Wendy Frank Doll a unique possession which is a Heirloom to be handed down to the next generation, and know that no one else has one the same.
